Réka Szabó

Réka Szabó is a Hungarian visual and conceptual artist specializing in environmental and site-specific art. 

Réka Szabó, Hungarian visual and conceptual artist, was born in 1986 in Romania. Her work focuses on the deep connection between nature and human, exploring the poetic, ephemeral, and symbolic relationships between space, ecology, and memory. Since earning her master’s degree in Design and Visual Communication in 2013, she has developed a distinctly research-based and place-responsive practice rooted in land artinstallation, and natural material experimentation. Szabó has participated in more than 60 international residencies, symposia, and site-specific festivals across Europe, Asia, and North America. Her installations have been presented in countries such as South Korea, France, Germany, Mongolia, Turkey, Canada, Switzerland, and India. In 2025, she will participate in the European Capital of Culture 2025 Nova Gorica - Gorizia official programme with a new project in Slovenia, and wil be featured in artist residencies in France, Canada, and the United States.
 
As an exhibiting artist, she has held solo shows in venues such as the François Schneider Foundation (France)Kunsthalle Budapest (Hungary)Jaleh Gallery (Iran), and Transylvanian Art Center (Romania). Her work is also included in international group exhibitions and retrospectives, such as the Graphic Art Biennale of Szeklerland (Romania), Vign’Art Festival (France), and SIEAF Experimental Art Festival (South Korea). In addition to her artistic practice, Szabó is the President of the Transylvanian Contemporary Art Society, where she curates and organizes interdisciplinary events and cross-cultural collaborations. She is also an active member of international artist networks, such as AiNIN (Artists in Nature International Network)Narrative Movements (India), and YATOO (South Korea). Her recent work includes a VR-compatible permanent exhibition in Daniel Castle (Romania), interior design projects tied to historical preservation, and a growing focus on immersive environmental storytelling.
