Peter Purg is an Associate Professor of New Media at the Academy of Arts of the University of Nova Gorica, and the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities.

Peter Purg is an Associate Professor of New Media at the Academy of Arts of the University of Nova Gorica, and the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities. He works on intermedia projects and cross-sectoral programmes that critically address the impact of new technologies on society. He holds a PhD in Media Arts, Communication Sciences, and Literary Studies from the University of Erfurt (Germany), and specializes in intermedia art.

In his research, he focuses on the role of arts and humanities in ecology and strategies of growth, social innovation, and community practices. In his academic work, for the past 15 years, he has co-founded and led a series of international interdisciplinary projects. Purg is also active in higher education policy and serves as a curator in the fields of digital arts and culture. He has led the interdisciplinary collective Bobnars United, participated in the realization of anti-consumerist performative actions Podgana PPP, and chaired the Council of the Slovenian National Agency for Quality in Higher Education for three years.

He was a member of the team that prepared the candidacy of Nova Gorica and Gorizia for the European Capital of Culture 2025. He co-founded the creative industry hub Xcenter in Nova Gorica and curated the 2019 edition of Pixxelpoint. Both projects are included in the Pixxel-X chapter of the GO! 2025 Bid Book, dedicated to Post Mobility (exploring the reuse of post-industrial heritage) and xMobil, the solar-powered trailer used as a mobile laboratory for audiovisual production, self-production, and research on intersections between art and science.
