The Third Sculpture from the Down to the River Project Has Been Unveiled!

Three structures by internationally renowned artists have already enriched the landscape along the Soča River in the framework of the Down to the River project.

Down by the River is a project that, through a series of sculptures, leaves a lasting artistic imprint on the area by the Soča River, a symbol of cross-border connections and shared space. With their works, the artists breathe life into the landscape, transforming it into a sculptural path. The project embodies a dialogue between nature and art, and through subtle artistic interventions, it permanently enriches the landscape, which the river unites into a borderless narrative of two worlds.

In November 2024, the first sculpture, entitled "Nekaj od mnogih" ("One of Many"), created by academic sculptor Marjan Mirt, was unveiled. The three human-rabbit figures that make up the sculpture symbolise the loss of individuality and the monotony of modern life.

In April, we discovered another structure, ORG CXXI – Impulse for the Soča, by Boštjan Kavčič, which embodies the dialogue between nature and art. The five-tonne stone sculpture, shaped in the sinus form of a heartbeat, in which the artist has woven a kilometre and a half of lines beating to the rhythm of the Soca, is located just above the Soča riverbed in Kanal ob Soči.

A few days ago, on 6 June, the third sculpture in the series, Forest Memories by the Hungarian artist Réka Szabó, was unveiled. The installation symbolises the strength and fragility of nature and the dialogue between man and the environment, and encourages us to reflect on the vulnerability of nature and our responsibility to protect it.
