Opening of the project Head to Head with Messerschmidt

On Monday, 20 October 2025, you are invited to the press conference and official unveiling of the project “Head to Head with Messerschmidt,” which brings two monumental replicas of the famous “Character Heads” into the urban landscape of Nova Gorica and Gorizia as a distinctive artistic symbol of the European Capital of Culture GO! 2025.

On Monday, 20 October 2025, at 11:00, the press conference for the presentation of the project “Head to Head with Messerschmidt” will take place at the Coronini Cronberg Palace in Gorizia. This will be followed by the unveiling of two monumental replicas of the famous sculptures by Franz Xaver Messerschmidt, now installed in two symbolic urban locations: Piazza Sant’Antonio in Gorizia and Europe Square (Piazza Transalpina) in Nova Gorica.

The collaboration between the cities of Nova Gorica and Gorizia gives the project special symbolic significance, as the two heads – “The Man Who Gazes at the Sun” and “The Sneeze” – bring art into public space and foster cross-border cultural exchange. A shuttle bus will be provided to transport participants from the palace to both unveiling sites.

The event will be attended by the Mayor of Gorizia and President of the Coronini Cronberg Foundation, Rodolfo Ziberna, and the Mayor of Nova Gorica, Samo Turel, along with representatives of the GO!2025 project and other partners.
Due to limited seating on the bus, participants are kindly requested to confirm their attendance by writing to: info@coronini.it. The event is expected to conclude around 13:00.
