Isonzo Traveling Cinema: “Three Quarters of the Sun”

Screening of Jože Babič’s film “Three Quarters of the Sun” in Piazza Transalpina for GO! 2025, with a dedicated exhibition at the Nova Gorica train station.
As part of the official programme for GO! 2025, European Capital of Culture, a special screening of Jože Babič’s film “Three Quarters of the Sun” will take place in Piazza Transalpina. The film, awarded the Golden Arena at the Yugoslav Film Festival in Pula, will be shown in its original 35mm format with Italian subtitles, symbolically bringing together audiences from both sides of the open border.
The story follows a group of deportees returning home by train after World War II. Director Jože Babič, a key figure in Slovenian cinema and theater, survived several concentration camps and escaped Auschwitz in 1944. He was also a founder of the Slovenian National Theatre in Nova Gorica.
In case of rain, the screening will be postponed to September 1, 2025.
Alongside the film, a temporary exhibition will be held at the Nova Gorica train station, the film’s original shooting location. The exhibit honors the station’s cultural significance and preserves its historical memory through the movie.
