Jože Babič: Three Quarters of the Sun

Special screening of the Slovenian film classic, shot at the Nova Gorica Railway Station, from the original 35 mm print and with Italian subtitles, on 31 August 2025 at 20:30 in Europe Square.

RETURN TO THE HOME STATION

Audiences rarely watch a film exactly in the place where it was shot, experiencing it in a double way. Usually the leading roles in a film are given to actors and actresses, but in i, one of the main roles belongs to the Nova Gorica Railway Station, recognizable by its view of Sabotin and Sveta Gora. Despite the recent renovation, the space has not changed significantly, giving viewers the feeling that they are not sitting in a cinema, but inside the film itself.

Three Quarters of the Sun was filmed 66 years ago by the legendary Jože Babič. The story of concentration camp survivors returning from all directions after the end of the Second World War, stranded in a remote railway station in the middle of a devastated Europe, is sadly always relevant.
