Tadej Stolić: Weaving a cross-border festival music landscape

Transformiamo Il Confine In Galleria D Arte 2211
Today, the legendary Italian saxophonist James Senese JNC, a collaborator of Pino Daniele and one of the most prominent representatives of the "Neapolitan Power" movement, is coming to the Music of the World Festival - the person who made this possible is Tadej Stolić. The international cross-border festival, co-created by Tadej Stolić from Kud Morgan, under the auspices of the Goriški muzej and the Controtempo association from Cormons, with the support of GO! 2025, has been connecting two cities, Gorizia and Nova Gorica, with musicians and music from all over the world for a decade. The programme includes folk traditions as well as contemporary mutations of old and new sounds from urban metropolises.   Tadej studied musicology at the University of Udine, Italy, and is currently preparing for his PhD in musicology, in which he will analyse the aesthetics of composer Vinko Globokar's musical theatre through philological research. He regularly writes articles for local music magazines and is a member of the editorial board of Glasna, a magazine of the Slovenian Music Youth Association. As a freelancer, he collaborates with various radio stations. His musicological research and event organisation focus on contemporary serious music, jazz and multimedia artistic practices.   He has been active in organising musical events since his student days, creatively directing the music programme of the City of Youth Festival and organising other concert events, he was a member of the collective of the Mostovna Cultural Centre, and since 2012 he has been the chairman of Kud Morgan, which organises music festivals and concerts in the wider Goriška region and throughout Slovenia. He (co-)designs concert programmes for various festivals: the Music of the World, the Pretočnice regional concert series that runs along the entire Soča Valley, Ubrane note, and the Beer & Blues festival in Lokve. In the past he was a member of the programme council of the Sajeta festival. He is involved in the cross-border music cycle Musiche di sconfine, dedicated to promoting young musicians from our border region.   "For several years, within the framework of the Kud Morgan association, we have been weaving a musical network of cooperation across the border between different organisations, associations, institutions and venues with the aim of creating a cross-border musical region where artists exchange and audiences migrate. Beyond the arts, we look for synergies with the local characteristics of our region: from local food (delicatessen market at the Music of the World Festival) to drinks through our collaboration with local businesses Reservoir Dogs at the Beer & Blues Lokve Festival to hosting concerts at heritage sites. Culture is more than just art for us", explains Tadej.   He wants to contribute to the construction of a unified cross-border cultural festival space and sees the future in cultural tourism based on a rich and diverse cultural heritage. "The concepts of culture, cultural heritage, authenticity and cultural uniqueness of local people are key elements of many concepts of sustainable tourism, which, combined with social justice and the quality of the living environment of local people, constitute their socio-cultural essence. To ensure that cultural offerings work closely with sustainable tourism, we are working to develop a cross-border strategy that combines cultural events with promoting immersion in the local atmosphere, tasting local cuisine, and participating in local events."
