The Municipality of Nova Gorica as a part of GO! 2025 - The European Capital of Culture, invites artists to create proposals for urban interventions as wall paintings or wall installations. In May and June 2021, our border area will host two major and important events: the Giro d'Italia and the Biking Race of Slovenia, which will attract wide attention from the international public.
The European Capital of Culture therefore wants to permanently mark these two sporting events with artistic interventions that will brighten up the route along the border and give the opportunity to creatively present the area and its cross-border life. The theme of artistic interventions is freedom of movement, with priority given to proposals that also include the themes of cycling, borderlessness or Europe.
Subject of the Public Call Through the Public Call the jury will select proposals for artistic interventions for five locations in the border area of Nova Gorica (photos in the attachment). The selected artists will receive a fee of €1,200 for each intervention, and all material costs described in the application form will be reimbursed, but may not exceed €500 per intervention. If necessary, technical assistance in preparations and actual work will be provided. Funds for the purpose of interventions are reserved in the budget of the Municipality of Nova Gorica on the budget item 10203 – the European Capital of Culture. The artist can submit one proposal for each of the objects (minimum one and maximum five proposals). The submitted proposals should contain a sketch, which is computer-processed on a photograph of the selected location, so that it can be seen how it will look in real space. Only one proposal will be selected for each location. If no proposals are received for certain locations, these locations may be left without intervention, or the commission may decide to offer one of these locations for processing to one of the non-selected artists. In this case, the jury will offer the artist the opportunity to adapt the sketch to the new object, and the artist has the opportunity to reject the offer. 📸 Photos of locations in higher resolution are available for the duration of the call at https://bit.ly/3sU5L4q and can be used to prepare the sketches.
