The climatic century of the Goricas

The climatic century of the Goricas

The purpose of the symposium is to raise awareness about the climate challenges that await us in the near future.

The symposium titled The climatic century of the Goricas is a result of a multi-year project called the Laboratory for the Future of Food, which operates as one of the official projects of the European Capital of Culture 2025 in the multimedia Xcenter in Nova Gorica. The laboratory, aimed at the local community, hosts various educational and research projects through which users delve into possible alternatives for food production and processing, as well as the use of food waste to minimize detrimental impacts on the environment. With the conference, we aim to raise awareness among people regarding the necessary changes in dietary habits, placing them in a historical perspective of the predicted effects of climate change that will fundamentally alter the flora and fauna of the Goriška area, thereby also affecting food and eating habits.

The purpose of the symposium is to raise awareness about the challenges that await us in the near future and to encourage reflection among experts, creatives, and the wider society on possible new patterns of living that could slow down climate change and adapt eating habits so that they do not burden the environment more than necessary for maintaining ecological balance.
