Archaeological suggestions 2026

The legacy of Giovanni Brusin (1883-1976) and the great discoveries of Aquileian archaeology

The traditional Archaeological Suggestions series returns in July, a series of conferences organized annually by the National Archaeological Museum and the National Association for Aquileia to showcase the area's archaeology: discoveries, new developments, insights, and stories of those who have dedicated themselves to the care, study, and promotion of Aquileia.

The 2026 edition is dedicated to one of the protagonists of Aquileia's archaeology and the great discoveries of his era: Giovanni Battista Brusin, director of the National Archaeological Museum from 1922 to 1952. Fifty years after his death, his discoveries are still the subject of study and research thanks to the efforts of the many organizations committed to promoting the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Aquileia, who have embraced his mission. We will hear from them about the latest developments, challenges, and open questions regarding some of the ancient city's monumental sites, which Brusin and the National Association for Aquileia brought to light. Founded in 1928, the National Association for Aquileia has always stood by the Aquileian archaeologist, promoting and supporting, including financially, studies, excavations, and research in what are still among the city's most renowned and popular archaeological sites.

The appointment is at the National Archaeological Museum every Thursday in July at 5:15 pm.
