January 2020, Nonino Distillatori is proclaimed ‘Best Distillery in the World’ Spirit Brand/ Distiller of the Year 2019 by Wine Enthusiast, it is the first time for Italy and for Grappa. The Nonino family has devoted itself to the Art of Distillation since 1897. This year will see the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of Monovitigno® Nonino Grappa Revolution, which started in 1973, when Giannola and Benito Nonino separately started distilling the pomace of the Picolit grape and turned Grappa from Cinderrella to Queen of Distillates, as stated in a 2017 case study by LSE (London School of Economics Business Review).
In 1975 the Noninos established the Nonino Risit d’Aur Award - the Golden Vine Shoot - with the aim of promoting, rewarding and officially recognizing native Friulian heritage vines and preserving the biodiversity of the area.
In 1984 they created the Grape Distillate, ÙE® by distilling the whole grape.
Over the years, the company has earned numerous prestigious awards. In 2020, it was recognised as the ‘Best Distillery in the World’ in the Spirit Brand/Distiller of the Year 2019 category by Wine Enthusiast. Antonella, Cristina and Elisabetta Nonino—firmly rooted in tradition yet constantly innovating—have been promoting the versatility of Italian Grappa since 2007, launching the #BEBRAVEMIXGRAPPA movement. This initiative introduced mixologists around the world to Grappa as a modern cocktail ingredient, opening a new chapter for the entire category.
