New coins of the Republic of Slovenia in circulation

New coins of the Republic of Slovenia in circulation

At the Bank of Slovenia, new collector coins will enter circulation on 2 July 2025 to mark the European Capital of Culture 2025 project Nova Gorica - Gorizia.

Every year, the Bank of Slovenia issues a series of collector coins made of precious metals (gold and silver coins) and special bi-metal collector coins with a nominal value of 3 euros. The nominal value of collector coins is expressed in euros, but it differs from the nominal values of circulation coins. This year, the collector coins are dedicated to the European Capital of Culture 2025 project Nova Gorica - Gorizia.

The author of the design featured on the coins is Gorazd Učakar. The central motive of the design GO! 2025 is the mosaic on Europe Square or its elements. The author presents them in their basic form on one side of the coin, and on the other side, he creatively merges them while keeping them in their original positions. The use of contour typography for the nominal values links the existing visual identity of the European Capital of Culture 2025 Nova Gorica - Gorizia with the image of the coin.

The following collector coins have been minted:

  • gold coin (European Capital of Culture 2025 Nova Gorica - Gorizia),
  • silver coin (European Capital of Culture 2025 Nova Gorica - Gorizia),
  • 3-euro collector coin in standard minting technique (European Capital of Culture 2025 Nova Gorica - Gorizia),
  • 3-euro collector coin in proof (high gloss) technique (European Capital of Culture 2025 Nova Gorica - Gorizia).

The coins will be available at the Cashier’s Desk of the Bank of Slovenia, Štefanova 1, Ljubljana, at DBS branches throughout Slovenia, and at the branch office of Moro & Kunst, Dunajska 156, WTC, Ljubljana.
