Unveiling of the sculpture by Beatrice Taponecco: Sconfinando / Crossing Borders

On 29 October 2025 at 16:00, a sculpture by Italian artist Beatrice Taponecco will be unveiled in Vrtojba. Her work, carved from white Carrara marble, invites reflection on the crossing of borders – physical, emotional, and symbolic – and emphasizes the importance of openness, connection, and coexistence. The event is part of the CREW – Crossroads of Visions project, co-financed by the European Union.

The sculpture, titled Sconfinando / Crossing Borders, will be installed at the event space of the Gas Vrtejba Association. Its rhythmic and flowing form creates a sense of continuity between the artwork and the surrounding space. Inspired by natural shapes, its soft lines unfold from the center without sharp edges, acting as a visual metaphor for dialogue and openness. The white marble surface becomes almost translucent in the light, giving the piece a sense of lightness and permeability.

Beatrice Taponecco, originally from Italy and living in Pulico, graduated in visual arts and sculpture from the Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara. Marble is her primary medium, through which she explores the relationship between nature, space, and the human experience. Her works have been presented in numerous exhibitions, and she has created several public sculptures.

The unveiling will feature live music by Matija Podbersič (trumpet) and Jakob Leban (trombone). The CREW project is carried out in cooperation with partners from Slovenia and Italy: SDAG Spa, Municipality of Šempeter-Vrtojba, IUAV University of Venice, University of Ljubljana – Faculty of Architecture, Nova Gorica Cultural Centre, and associated partner GECT GO / EZTS GO.
