When:
GO! SAIL – Barraonda, A Boat That Unites
From 14 to 16 November , Barraonda – the GO! 2025 sailing boat – will be on display in Piazza Vittoria in Gorizia for the GO! SAIL event : three days to get to know the boat, its team and the values it represents up close.
Born from a project by German Frers (one of the greatest nautical designers in the world) and Lucio Provvidenti , 12 metres long, Barraonda is a sailing boat built in carbon fibre with a canting keel, designed outside of any scheme.
Barraonda's cross-border journey began in 2022 when mayors Matej Arčon and Rodolfo Ziberna decided to symbolically unite the communities of Nova Gorica and Gorizia : a gesture charged with meaning, marking the beginning of a borderless friendship and a shared commitment to forging new paths of cooperation and dialogue. From that shared path, a deep collaboration with the GECT GO was born, culminating in support of the GO! 2025 – European Capital of Culture candidacy. Since then, Barraonda has become its ambassador , promoting projects and values that demonstrate how sport, and sailing in particular, are a true school of life.
Barraonda isn't just a sailboat: it's a symbol of GO! 2025 – Nova Gorica and Gorizia European Capital of Culture , a message of strength, innovation, and connection between sea, land, and community. Skipped by a mixed Italian-Slovenian crew, it has made the region's international visibility an integral part of its mission.
Now the time has come to tell this story. To explain how and why Barraonda has come this far, to show the stages of a journey that isn't just about a boat, but above all about the people who have achieved important milestones with it. And this is how the event " GO! SAIL " and the short film " A Dream Called Barraonda " were born: two moments that represent an invitation to believe in the power of people, in the strength of unity, and in the importance of breaking down all boundaries to build something extraordinary together.
In particular, on the afternoon of Friday, November 14, the short film "A Dream Called Barraonda" will be presented. It was created by students at the Slataper High School in Gorizia under the guidance of Professor Marco Luciano and will be screened for the first time at the Kinemax in Gorizia . It is a story of collaboration, friendship, and shared visions between Gorizia and Nova Gorica, about dreams that unite and boundaries that are overcome together.
