An exhibition at the Museum of Santa Chiara, organized by the Municipality of Gorizia in collaboration with the Archdiocese of Gorizia, with the support of the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia.

Curated by Alessio Persic of the Università Cattolica di Milano and directed by Marino De Grassi, this exhibition – organized by the Municipality of Gorizia in collaboration with the Archdiocese of Gorizia and supported by the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region – brings together over 200 treasures from the former Patriarchate of Aquileia, suppressed in 1751 by Pope Benedict XIV. Among the highlights are sumptuous liturgical vestments, rare medieval antiphonals, monumental paintings and engravings, period musical instruments and historically significant manuscripts.

The display traces the Patriarchate’s evolution from its establishment as an imperial ecclesiastical principality by Henry IV in 1077 – when it exercised extensive metropolitan authority – to the loss of its temporal power following Venice’s conquest of Friuli in 1420 and Gorizia’s incorporation into the Habsburg domains in 1500.

Admission is a single €5 ticket.
