Atlas of Forgotten Orchards – project presentation
A two-part programme in Kojsko and Nova Gorica featuring a guided tour of an old-variety orchard, a presentation of the botanical library, and an evening film-art event with the creators of the Atlas of Forgotten Orchards.
Atlas of Forgotten Orchards is a botanical-artistic project dedicated to preserving old fruit varieties, exploring their history, and tracing global stories of coexistence between people and trees. The programme on 30 November 2025 unfolds in two chapters – in Kojsko and in Nova Gorica.
11:00 – Center for Fruit Culture, Kojsko (Goriška Brda)
A guided tour of the orchard of old fruit varieties and a presentation of the small botanical library at the unique Center for Fruit Culture, home to more than 65 traditional and indigenous varieties, alongside historically significant international varieties.
Organised transport will be available from Nova Gorica (Europe Square). Limited capacity – registration required at atlas@nosorogi.com by 27 November 2025. In case of bad weather, the visit will be postponed.
18:00 – EPIC Conference Hall, Nova Gorica
Film Journeys into Forgotten Orchards – an evening with the project’s creators, presenting ten months of research across seven countries and three continents. Participating artists:
Katarina Jazbec (Slovenia/Netherlands),
Saodat Ismailova (Uzbekistan/France),
Zaina Bseiso (USA/Palestine),
Los Ingrávidos (Mexico),
Gregor Božič (Slovenia).
The event will be held in English with simultaneous translation into Slovenian. A convivial gathering and tasting of delicacies made from old fruit varieties will follow.
The project highlights the global disappearance of traditional orchards and is developing an open atlas of forgotten orchards – a documentary-imaginative collection of stories of landscapes, memory and cultural heritage. The heart of the project is the orchard under Skalca in Kojsko, the largest regional gene bank of old fruit varieties, complemented by a multifunctional pavilion and a botanical library.
