Solkan Bridge
Solkan Bridge

With a span of 85 meters, Solkan Bridge is the world's longest stone arch railroad bridge. This construction masterpiece was finished at the beginning of the 20th century, precisely in 1905, as part of the Bohinj Railway between Gorica and Jesenice. They needed 1,960 cubic metres of stone shaped into 4,533 ashlar blocks. The first train from Vienna arrived to the port of Trieste in 1906. The bridge was demolished during World War I. However, they were able to rebuilt it following the original plans and is serving its purpose still to date. In 1985, Solkan Bridge was acknowledged as technical monument and thus enjoy special protection.

During the summer weekends, the historical steam engine breathes life into the bridge, offering unforgettable rides overlooking the Soča, one of Europe’s most beautiful rivers.

There is another road bridge just next to the railway bridge. It was erected in the second half of the 20th century to connect Nova Gorica and the Brda Region. This bridge reflects the signature architectural design of her more famous sister. The emerald Soča River runs right under the two bridges, creating together a truly breathtaking panorama of the landscape.

In summer, the road bridge becomes the only bridge in Slovenia from which you can experience the thrill of bungee jumping.
