Villa De Nordis Open Air Cinema

Villa De Nordis, Via degli Scogli 70, Gorizia Access Parking – We kindly ask you to park your car in the Solkan industrial area. Continue on foot along the bike path leading to Italy and, at the first intersection, turn right onto the dirt path. After about 200 meters, you'll reach the villa entrance. The traveling Cinema Isonzo / potujoči Kino Soča, which unites the Slovenian-Italian border area through film, will once again turn its gaze to the big screen in one of its most unique locations this August. The second edition of the Villa De Nordis open-air cinema will be held on August 6 and 7 at 9:00 pm, offering a cinematic experience right on the border between Nova Gorica and Gorizia, where the border suddenly makes a 90-degree turn around the solitary villa. In case of inclement weather, the event will be canceled.

At the end of World War II, the villa belonged to Countess Liduška de Nordis Hornik, who divided her time between Gorizia and Africa, where she ran her plantations. Mysterious stories surround the villa about how her connections with important people allowed her to keep her birthplace on Italian soil. It's unclear whether influential friends or legendary parties moved the border. It's said that among these acquaintances was Sarah Churchill, daughter of the British statesman, a frequent guest at Gorizia's celebrated evenings. The countess was certainly one of the women who left their mark on this place and its history, even if her name doesn't appear in school textbooks. The program features two extraordinary films that offer a fresh perspective on contemporary female cinematic creativity: on August 6th, Little Trouble Girls (Kaj ti je deklica) by director Urška Djukić, an intimate portrait exploring youth and growing up, will be screened; The following day, August 7th, will feature Maura Delpero's Vermiglio, which takes us to fascinating yet overlooked landscapes and their inhabitants. This year, Villa De Nordis's Summer Cinema will once again open its doors to spectators under the starry sky, where cinematic art will come to life in this unique place, steeped in history and mystery. Little Trouble Girls Urška Djukić, Slovenia, Serbia, Italy, Croatia, 2025, 89', SUB ITA Little Trouble Girls tells the story of Lucija, a shy and sensitive 16-year-old girl who joins a girls' choir, where she befriends Ana-Marija, a feisty and flirtatious third-year. During a retreat to a country monastery for a weekend of intensive rehearsals, Lucija's interest in a dark-eyed art restorer puts her friendship with Ana-Marija and the other girls to the test. Immersed in an unfamiliar environment and taking her first steps in exploring her sexuality, Lucija begins to question her own beliefs and values, disrupting the harmony within the choir. The film won the FIPRESCI Prize in the Perspectives section at the 75th Berlin Film Festival. Vermiglio Maura Delpero, Italy, France, Belgium, 2024, 119', SUB SLO Shot in Trentino-Alto Adige, the film is set between 1944 and 1945 and follows the life of a mountain teacher's large family, particularly his three daughters, Lucia, Ada, and Flavia: no longer children, not yet women, marked by a single gunshot that marks the end of their innocence. Grand Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival. Vermiglio is the setting and main location, but filming also took place in the snowy areas of Mezzana, Dimaro Folgarida, Pellizzano, and Pejo in Trentino. Filming also took place in South Tyrol, among the wooded landscapes of the Bassa Atesina, which convey a timeless and evocative atmosphere, and at the Convent of San Floriano, in Laghetti near the municipality of Egna, at the foot of Mount Madrutta. Deep in the woods, far from residential areas, the 13th-century Romanesque building was the focus of scenes set inside a convent and in the mountain hut, which was reconstructed in the backyard. For Lucia's dream scene, in which she ventures to Sicily, a room in the convent was transformed into a Sicilian landscape. Another scene is set in a bare room where newborns sleep in cribs by the window, and finally, the cell in which Ada, one of the three sisters, becomes a nun, is part of the structure. The traveling Cinema Isonzo – Kino Soča, active since 2024, organizes outdoor screenings in picturesque locations along the border, in collaboration with various partners in the region. The event is part of the Go Green Cinema project, which targets a broad cross-border audience, local residents, occasional foreign visitors, and participants in the official GO! 2025 program of the European Capital of Culture. The project is supported by the European Union through the GO! 2025 Small Projects Fund of the Interreg VI-A Italy-Slovenia 2021-2027 program, managed by the EGTC GO. www.ita-slo.eu & www.euro-go.eu/spf
