Lukatelce Open-Air Cinema

At the end of August, cinema comes to Tolmin, more precisely to Volče, where on Sunday, 24 August, it joins the Lukatelce festival.
The evening will be dedicated to two unforgettable artists – Ivan Volarič Feo and Franci Slak. A tribute to their cinematic and poetic spirit will include a screening of the film Najlepša jutra so zjutraj (The Most Beautiful Mornings Are in the Morning, Franci Slak, 1990), followed by a concert that will extend the film experience into the night. In case of rain, the event will take place at the Volče Cultural Centre. The event is organised by the Lukatelce Festival, the Sajeta Festival, and Kinoatelje.
In 1979, Marko Brecelj left the band Buldožer and joined forces with the poet Ivan Volarič Feo. Together, as the musical-performance duo Duo Zlatni zubi, they travelled across Yugoslavia. Their minimalist, poetic, singer-songwriter performances gained cult status among young audiences, especially through their appearances in high schools. In 1979, Franci Slak filmed some of these performances, while Hanna Preuss recorded the sound. Unfortunately, the audio recordings were lost in a fire at Studio Tivoli, so the visual material shot by Franci Slak remains the only record of these performances. These recordings are kept by the Slovenian Film Archive, but it is unlikely they will ever be shown publicly in raw form. The project FI(L)M is therefore an attempt to honour these three late artists – Franci Slak, Marko Brecelj, and Ivan Volarič Feo – whose work still resonates with the wider public.
The material shot by Franci Slak on super 8mm film already carries an experimental spirit – short takes, unusual camera movements, and overexposures. Together with musicians who collaborated with Brecelj or Feo (Tomaž Grom, Samo Kutin, Andrej Fon), we explore the dialogue between image and sound: a new soundtrack will be created based on the footage, after which the edited version of the film will be made. Director Boris Petkovič approaches this as a personal tribute: in the early 1990s, he worked with Brecelj at the MKC club, Slak was his mentor and friend, and he met Feo through Brecelj, later filming an episode of Desperado tonic with him.
The event is part of the Go Green Cinema project, which addresses the wider cross-border audience, local residents, casual foreign visitors, and participants within the official programme of the European Capital of Culture GO! 2025. It is supported by the European Union through the Small Projects Fund GO! 2025 of the Interreg VI-A Italy–Slovenia 2021–2027 programme, managed by EGTC GO.
