The scientific basis of Friulian weather proverbs

The scientific basis of Friulian weather proverbs

Conference by Dario Giaiotti (University of Trieste and ARPA FVG) and Enrico Maiero (OGS)

Weather strongly influences human activities. In this context, the most significant aspect is forecasting the evolution of the atmosphere and future weather conditions. Before the development of scientific meteorology, people created predictive models based on observations of atmospheric and natural phenomena. These models often persisted in popular beliefs and proverbs. The speakers will explore how a popular belief about weather emerges and becomes part of a language’s cultural heritage, crystallising in the form of a proverb. The event is organised by the Societât Sientifiche e Tecnologjiche Furlane (SSTeF), the Centro Ricerche Carsiche Gorizia 'C. Seppenhofer,' and the Società Meteorologica Alpino-Adriatica (SMAA). The conference will be delivered in Friulian.
