MUSICAE MUNDI

New European Music in Minority Languages
Four surprising showcases from bands from Sardinia, Friuli, the Basque Country, and Slovenia in an evening presented by Michele Polo and Patricija Muzlovic. Folk, hip hop, a cappella vocal music, and rock are the ingredients of these four musical projects united by a modern reinterpretation of their territorial origins The guests: NIÑA COYOTE ETA CHICO TORNADO (Basque Country) Originating from Donostia, the capital of Gipuzcoa in the Basque autonomous community, Nina Coyote eta Chico Tornado perfectly express all the wild and primitive fury of rock & roll.
Their minimalist set combined with an extraordinary stage presence has toured the world in a handful of years, becoming popular in Japan, the United States, and Latin America, and opening concerts for bands of the caliber of Metallica, Prodigy, and Queens of the Stone Age. The duo recently won the MIN Independent Music Award, the main recognition for Basque music. ČARALICE (Slovenia) Zvezdana Novaković ZveN is one of the most eclectic and surprising contemporary Slovenian performers. In the last decade, she has collaborated with some of the most important names in the Slovenian avant-garde, such as Laibach and Svetlana Makarovič. The Čaralice project is dedicated to ritual songs, ancient magical chants, and healing spells, reviving the tradition of a cappella singing and blending it with theatrical performance and experimental electronics.
GIORGIA GUNGUI (Sardinia) Giorgia Gungui is a singer, composer, and poet born in Nuoro and raised in Gallura. With a solid background in opera singing, she dedicates herself to multiple forms of art, including writing musical lyrics in Gallurese, demonstrating how reflecting on one’s origins can expand the journey of self-discovery. Giorgia’s singing evokes an ancestral world and at the same time is a keen gaze towards the horizon, looking far ahead. DORO GJAT (Friuli) Luca ‘Doro Gjat’ Dorotea is the diamond point of Friulian hip hop. His mix of rap and pop can appeal to different generations, just as his ability to blend the Friulian language with English and Italian has been able to transport his music beyond regional borders.
Raised among the ranks of the famous Carnicats crew, in continuity with that experience, he has embarked on a solo career for several years now, already rich with satisfaction.
