Krasen Festival

When Ljubljana is no longer the centre of Slovenia's artistic universe.

The vision of decentralizing art through the Krasen Festival, created by producer Zala Opara, has for the fifth year in a row been connecting Slovenian and international creators with culture enthusiasts.

Krasen Festival traditionally presents both established artists and fresh voices on the cultural scene. The previous edition showcased the works of world-renowned painters such as punk-cubist painter Sicoe, Leila Bartell, and Tomato Košir. It also hosted the pre-premiere of award-winning short films, including Granny’s Sexual Life by director Urška Djukić and The Actor by director Damjan Kozole.

This year’s kaleidoscope of content is curated for the first time by Ajda Opara and unfolds across the entire weekend, from 5 to 7 September. The first part of the program is dedicated to the painting exhibition Between Worlds by Eva Robida Blau, which opens a window into "something that is not yet"—a space where reality is created and where time has no access. Before the evening cinema under the stars, the audience will experience an experimental poetic-theatre piece by Leya Kos titled "Orbiting, poetically". This will be followed by short films addressing relevant topics such as the consequences of climate change in the future and the nature of work in theatre and film—where the boundaries between reality and story sometimes blur. The evening will gently conclude with a multimedia performance by Jan Vysocky and Tina Ščavničar, who merge music, projection, and poetry under the title "Body of The Tree".

On Saturday, the morning will be refreshed with guided yoga, embodiment practices, and breathwork. The centerpiece of the program will be a theatre production that transcends the frames of traditional stage work: THE BALLAD OF THE FIRSTBORN or Meet My Grandparents, directed by Voranc Mandić. The evening will close with a stargazing journey guided by astronomer Gregor Kervina.

Beyond the artistic and cultural experience, Krasen always creates a space for relaxation, conversation, and mindful immersion in the Karst nature, which is encouraged on the final, unwinding (Sun)day.

Krasen Festival is realized in collaboration with its dedicated team, the Municipality of Divača, the Škocjan Caves Park, the Škocjan Tourist Association, and the Srečko Kosovel Secondary School Center in Sežana, and is co-funded by the European Union.
