"JUMPING OVERCOMING BOUNDARIES" Jumping into history

Imagine… you can… “JUMPING OVERCOMING BOUNDARIES” is the visionary and wonderful project for GO!2025, for the cities of Nova Gorica - Gorizia and for Friuli Venezia Giulia.
A unique and unrepeatable event, which fully embraces the GO! 2025 European Capital of Culture project and its trademark: culture, art, and tourism.
The stage of Europe Square on July 25, 2025, will have 5/6 male and 5/6 female athletes capable of masterfully controlling their body movements, crossing the bar placed on the border of the two cities and two states during an international pole vault competition and symbolizing with the athletic gesture the overcoming of limits and boundaries.
On July 25, 2025, on the occasion of GO! 2025, European Capital of Culture, ASD LIBERTAS UDINE, on behalf of CR CONI FVG, will organize the international pole vault competition included in the WORLD ATHLETICS global calendar.
The race will take place in Europe square on the border between the two states of Italy and Slovenia, between the cities of Gorizia and Nova Gorica.
The competition allows for the participation of 5 male and 5 female athletes by invitation.
Provisional timetable:
3:00 pm: Jury and competitors meet
4.30pm start of the women's race
6.15pm start of the men's race SIDE EVENT:
On the same day, a collateral promotional event called “JUST JUMP” is planned:
“Just Jump” is a format that, equipped with a specific kit, allows you to “try out” pole vaulting. It consists of a progression of exercises that, with the help of three specialists, allows everyone to try pole vaulting in a mini format but with the same principles.
The "Just Jump" area will be in the green area of the square, adjacent to the champions' jumping area, and the speaker will remind the audience several times that any child or adult who attempts their first jump will receive an event T-shirt, which they can then have signed by the international competition champions.
The kit consists of two crossbar stands, a stackable hole, 3 or 4 training poles and other small extra tools to give children and adults present the opportunity to emulate the feats of the champions of the event.
“Just Jump” has already been successfully proposed in the past in front of the Scrovegni Chapel in Padua, at Villa Manin in Passariano and in other locations alongside competitive races.
In conclusion, thanks to this format, spectators will not only be spectators but will also be able to participate in this fascinating athletics specialty: pole vaulting.
TESTIMONIALS: Anna Giordano Bruno, an athlete from San Vito, former national record holder in the specialty with 4.60 m, won a bronze medal at the 2009 Mediterranean Games in Pescara and participated in the World Championships in Berlin, where she placed thirteenth with a jump of 4.50 m.
She has had three technical guides during her career: Gino Gazziola introduced her to pole vaulting, her first training with Giuliano Merlino and finally with the Slovenian coach Igor Lapajne, thanks to whom she managed to reach international heights.
Mauro Barella, born in Palermo, began practicing track and field under the guidance of Professor Ugo Cauz after his family moved to Udine, specializing in the pole vault.
He held the national record in the event with a leap of 5.50 meters.
In 1984, he achieved a remarkable 8th place at the Los Angeles Olympics, the first Italian to reach the finals in this event.
His other results included bronze at the Mediterranean Games in Casablanca in 1983 and 7th place at the European Indoor Championships in Milan in 1982.
