Amnesie - ci ricorda di non dimenticare / The Truth on Senday City

Amnesie - ci ricorda di non dimenticare / The Truth on Senday City

As part of the Amnesie project, promoted on the occasion of GO!2025 Borderless – Nova Gorica Gorizia European Capital of Culture, Marco Bolognesi's film The Truth on Sendai City, with the contribution of the Italian Ministry of Culture – Emilia Romagna Region and in collaboration with the Cineteca e Musei di Bologna, offers a powerful and disturbing narrative that questions the dynamics of collective memory in an era of global crisis and media manipulation.

The film, set in a futuristic and symbolic city, takes us into a dystopian universe where the boundaries between reality and illusion dissolve and the truth is systematically erased, rewritten, and reshaped according to logics of power and control.

Sendai City, an imaginary yet recognizable city, is the setting for an altered present in which amnesia has become a political strategy and a means of survival.

Here, memories are fragmented, unstable, vulnerable, and the very possibility of remembering is called into question by a hyper-technological, surveillance-driven society, where individual identity is constantly eroded by collective dynamics imposed from above.

In this scenario, Bolognesi constructs a visual and symbolic narrative that strongly recalls the issues addressed by the Amnesie project: oblivion as trauma and as choice, the rewriting of the past, the loss of meaning, social alienation.

The Truth about Sendai City is at once a film, a work of art, and a critical device.

With a stylistic signature that blends cyberpunk aesthetics, pop culture, political denunciation, and posthuman imagery, Bolognesi stages a poetic resistance to erasure.

The characters who inhabit Sendai City, including cyborgs, rebels, and ghostly apparitions, become a metaphor for a society desperately trying to reclaim its voice, its history, and its repressed traumas.

Alongside the screening, the exhibition project includes a selection of visual works that represent the creative and conceptual heart of the film.

Sketches, drawings, and photographs are presented as fragments of a visual atlas that conveys the complexity of Bolognesi's universe. Each work is a piece of a memory under construction, an exercise in critical imagination, an invitation to look beyond the visible.

The exhibition allows us to delve into the inner workings of the creative process, where narrative becomes matter, form, and installation. In line with the reflections pursued by Amnesie, Bolognesi's project questions the very idea of historical truth: who produces it? Who preserves it? Who decides what to forget?

In a world where memory can be altered with a click, Bolognesi's work reminds us of the need to rebuild spaces of authenticity and awareness, to bring back what has been buried, to reclaim the right to remember. With The Truth on Sendai City, Marco Bolognesi creates a highly timely artistic and political reflection, addressing crucial themes such as misinformation, loss of identity, the transformation of the body, and the fragility of the collective conscience.

An immersive journey into the heart of oblivion, but also an act of visual and poetic resistance against the dulling of contemporary memory.
