Addictions in penitentiaries

Addictions in penitentiaries

The Dipende da me association is proposing a social awareness event related to addictions entitled "Addictions in prisons".

In case of bad weather, the meeting will take place in the Dora Bassi Hall (Gorizia).

This will involve a discussion with various national and local stakeholders regarding the current situation, with the possibility of anonymous questions from the public.

The square was chosen as a meeting place open to all, and an information stand will be available.

There will be a testimony of recovery by the Community "Skupnost Srečanje" Kostanjevica v Novi Gorici and, for this reason, the event is cross-border.

It's Up to Me 2025: "Addictions in Penitentiaries" "It's never too late to overcome addictions."

Not even if you're in prison. This is the message of hope that continues to be conveyed by the addiction awareness event organized by the "Dipende da me" association in Ronchi dei Legionari, following the resounding success of previous editions in Monfalcone, followed on social media and in person.

The fourth edition will move to Gorizia, in Piazza Sant'Antonio, as the topic of discussion will be "Addictions in Penitentiaries" in a cross-border event Go!25 under the patronage of the Municipality of Gorizia.

It will take place on Friday 29 August from 8.30pm to 10.30pm.

In case of bad weather, the meeting will take place in the Dora Bassi Room at Via Giuseppe Garibaldi 7 (Go).

The situation in detention facilities is now more delicate than ever: shortage of medical staff, self-harm and suicides.

The meeting will feature a discussion between national and local officials about the current situation in prisons, with the option of anonymous questions from the audience.

Guests included Dr. Sandro Libianchi, former Medical Director of the Addiction Unit at the Rebibbia Penitentiary (Rome); Dr. Margherita Venturoli, Legal and Educational Officer of the Gorizia Carabinieri; and Andrea Sandra, attorney for persons deprived of their liberty (Udine).

The "Skupnost Srečanje" Kostanjevica v Novi Gorici Community will be present with their testimonies.

The evening will also feature the awards ceremony for the top three winners of the first edition of the national literary competition "inVISIBILI nell'INvisibile," dedicated to prisoners and ex-prisoners.

The award aims to shine a light on those who shouldn't be invisible, even during confinement.

The jury is composed of a commission of personalities from the worlds of culture, volunteering, justice, and prison system workers.

All the stories will be part of a volume that will be published later.

Participation is free and can also be done at a later date by sending your works to Dipendedamefvg@gmail.com

During the evening there will be an information stand for those who need further information.
