A RIVER: memories from the future • Aesthetic walk along the Isonzo River

From August 24th to 31st, we'll walk together along the Isonzo River, from Bovec in Slovenia to Isola della Cona in Staranzano, immersing ourselves in a transformative community experience, immersed in nature, history, and creativity.

"Walking means opening yourself up to the world," teaches anthropologist and sociologist David Le Breton (Life on Foot - Cortina).
Walking is not just a mechanical action, but can contain a philosophical and symbolic value that goes beyond simple movement, linked to our nature and the history of humanity.
Walking as a primary tool for transforming and perceiving the landscape, as a research tool for understanding the territory, its inhabitants and the major processes that have occurred over time.
Walking and understanding, therefore knowing, are distinct actions but at the same speed: just as on foot we perceive the landscape differently, so too, in a context of "slowness," knowledge becomes deeper and more specific to the place we pass through.
Walking along the Isonzo River is a walking route based on three elements: > Observation of nature and the landscape.
The natural beauty of the river and its banks, from mountain gorges to coastal lagoons, creates an experience that stimulates emotion and reflection starting from the flow of its waters, sometimes powerful, sometimes calm.
Discovering the history and culture of the area.
Through encounters with historical and artistic sites and through the words of Italian and Slovenian poets who have drawn inspiration from it, we will explore the cultural dimension of the journey and the role of the river in history.
Creative and inspirational practices. Along the way, participants are invited to express themselves through a "CARNET DE VOYAGE" workshop that explores the ability to document the territory: drawing, writing, and photography guide and educate us in understanding the aesthetics of the landscape.
Recognize beauty and learn to tell it.
The walk will be led by Giulia Cerrato, an architect, facilitator, and walker, as part of the Staranzano Water Festival events marking World Rivers Day.
The walk is organized with the support of the Municipality of Staranzano, on the occasion of GO25! Nova Gorica - Gorizia European Capital of Culture 2025, and in collaboration with the Fuorivia association.
