SOUND OF PEACE

SOUND OF PEACE

Welcome to Temnica!

16:00 Hike from Cave to Cave

A unique guided exploration of the mysterious karst commons offers a blend of the natural landscape’s beauty and stories from the everyday life of soldiers on the Soča Front. The hiking route follows a section of the Peace Trail from the Alps to the Adriatic, passing former battlefields, remains of trenches, military railways, cemeteries, and includes visits to three underground caves that sheltered soldiers during World War I. Along the way, we will admire the biodiversity of the landscape, karst meadows, dry stone walls, and listen to music and stories of soldiers who experienced this landscape over a century ago as a battleground for military power. A special feature of the hike is the opportunity to taste dishes prepared at the front.

“Beyond Zero: 1914–1918” is a project by Serbian-American composer Aleksandra Vrebalov and American director Bill Morrison, created in 2014 – a universal artistic reflection that transcends time. The project combines film and music: Morrison edited a moving film from archival World War I footage, and Vrebalov composed a piece for string quartet for this occasion.
In the composition, the composer intertwined important musical elements from that era with a clear message: “Never again war!”
The music will be performed live by the acclaimed Austrian string quartet Acies Quartett.

“Beyond Zero: 1914–1918” is part of the project “Art Against the Gun,” produced by the Mink Association Tolmin, and is an official program of the European Capital of Culture GO! 2025 Nova Gorica – Gorica.
