ECoC 2025 Presentation at the European Parliament

A presentation of the European Capitals of Culture 2025 at the European Parliament.

This year's European Capitals of Culture, Nova Gorica - Gorizia and Chemnitz, presented their programmes with slogans GO! Borderless (Nova Gorica - Gorica) and C the Unseen (Chemnitz) to the Members of the European Parliament and high-level political guests on Tuesday 13 May 2025. In addition, the European Capitals of Culture presented a joint White Paper of 40 recommendations from 40 years of ECoC, which summarises the results of an extensive research project and provides guidelines to the future direction of the European Capitals of Culture.

The 40 Recommendations from 40 years of ECoC is a 40-year success story spanning across Europe. Together with MEPs ,Anna Cavazzini, Matthias Ecke, Matjaž Nemec, Oliver Schenk and Irena Joveva, we distributed posters with an overview of the history of ECoC. This was followed by a discussion on the White Paper with:

• Andreas Handschuh, Member of the Federal Council of Germany,
• Andreja Viher White, Deputy Permanent Representative of Slovenia to the EU,
• Nela Riehl, Chair of the Culture and Education Committee,
• Sven Schulze, Mayor of Chemnitz,
• Samo Turel, Mayor of the City Municipality of Nova Gorica.
