Tattooing in Time, Tattooing Today. From Urban Practice to Artistic Expression

Tattooing in Time, Tattooing Today. From Urban Practice to Artistic Expression

Speaker: Guido Guerzoni

Moderator: Alex De Pase

From ritual symbol to global phenomenon, from mechanical practice to artistic expression, tattooing has ubiquitously crossed eras and cultures, evolving over time.

Historian Guido Guerzoni and artist Alex De Pase explore its millenary roots and contemporary functions, between stylistic innovation and personal narratives.

A journey through history, subcultures and social transformations, to understand why this art form has become a mass phenomenon.

With the panel dedicated to tattoos as a language and cultural phenomenon, GECT GO opens a reflection on the relationship between identity, body and urban transformation, aligning itself with its vision of culture as a vehicle for dialogue and inclusion.

The tattoo, now widespread in every social context, presents itself as a form of personal and collective expression capable of crossing eras, geographies and affiliations.

Its evolution, from ritual and spiritual meanings to contemporary practices related to art and innovation, allows us to investigate how cities are spaces in which symbols, stories and memories intertwine in the bodies of their inhabitants.

In a year in which Gorizia and Nova Gorica propose themselves as a European laboratory of coexistence and creativity, this thematic choice underlines the function of culture as a mirror and engine of social transformations, in line with the intercultural and multidisciplinary approach that guides the action of the GECT GO.

Guido Guerzoni is the course director and professor of Museum Management at the University "Luigi Bocconi" in Milan in the specialist degree course in "Economics and Management of the Arts, Culture, Media and Entertainment".

For thirty-five years he has been involved in the history of culture and art markets in the modern era, as well as issues relating to the economics of art and the management of cultural institutions.
