"Snatched from the Source": a documentary by Maja Weiss

Screening of the new documentary by Maja Weiss "Snatched from the Source", in collaboration with Kinoatelje association and the Institute for Slovenian Culture.

We look forward to seeing you on Sunday, April 14, 2024, at 8 pm at the Landscapes and Narratives Museum (SMO) in San Pietro al Natisone for the screening of Maja Weiss's new documentary: "Snatched from the Source" (The Slovenian Children of Lebensborn, 79 min, 2023), subtitled in Italian. With the collaboration of Kinoatelje association and the Institute for Slovenian Culture, the director Maja Weiss, the producer Ida Weiss from Bela Film production house, and the co-author of the screenplay Nataša Konc Lorenzutti will also be present at the screening.

The film looks back at one of the darkest periods in European history, the Second World War, through the perspective of four children, the last survivors of a Nazi "racial selection" experiment. In 1942, thirty children from occupied areas of Slovenia were subjected to the Lebensborn programme, lead by Heinrich Himmler to expand the Aryan race. The children were "snatched" from their original families and adopted by German couples perceived as loyal to the regime.

Weiss's goal is to convey a clear message to today's world – torn apart by new wars in Ukraine, Africa, the Middle East, and elsewhere: "The victims of every war, whether among the ranks of the aggressors or the attacked, are the children. Peace is the supreme value."
