Slovenian Film Festival in Italy – Stealing the Land of Gorizia

Cinephilia is a beam of light that pierces the darkness of the theater and unites friends and strangers in the same story.

At the cross-border crossroads where history and everyday life intertwine, the Slovenian Film Festival in Italy has been creating a space for encounters between two cultures for years: contemporary Slovenian films cross languages, enriched with Italian subtitles. The program features recent works, including productions that won awards at the Slovenian Film Festival.

Each screening allows you to see the world from a slightly different perspective than usual. Also arriving in May is the dramatic satire Stealing the Earth (Zemljo krast), directed by Žiga Virc and written by screenwriter Iza Strehar.

The film follows two families who meet over a children's argument over a game of "stealing the land." When one of the children declares himself Palestine, the innocent childish game becomes a mirror of the contemporary world.

The evening evolves into a tense ideological clash, where every word becomes a weapon and the living room becomes a stage for the social tensions of our time. The film will be screened on May 7th at 8:00 PM in Gorizia, with the filmmakers in attendance. A repeat screening will take place on May 8th, 2026, at 5:30 PM at the Palazzo del Cinema in Gorizia.

Entrance fee: 6 euros.

The festival, organized by Kinoatelje in collaboration with the Government Office of the Republic of Slovenia for Slovenians Abroad and Abroad, the Slovenian Film Centre, and the Friuli-Venezia Giulia Region, renews its commitment to connecting audiences, promoting intercultural dialogue, and supporting the dissemination of contemporary Slovenian cinema internationally in 2026.
