Silvan Furlan Open-Air Cinema

The open-air cinema, named after the film critic and founder of the Slovenian Cinematheque, will transform into a cultural venue. 

For the thirteenth year in a row, the urban square in front of Nova Gorica Municipality building will transform into the Silvan Furlan Open-Air Cinema, where under the starry sky we will enjoy a diverse range of genre-diverse cinematic masterpieces—critically acclaimed and internationally awarded. From 24 July to 3 August 2025, every evening at 21:00, the open-air cinema will bring several premieres to the Goriška region, with a touch of social commentary as well.

All films will be eqipped with Slovene subtitles. Screenings are free of charge and will start every evening at 21:00, offering the perfect opportunity to relax and enjoy cultural content under the open sky. In case of rain, screenings will take place in the Small Hall of the Nova Gorica Arts Centre. This year, for the first time, some screenings will also be held in the amphitheatre of the Slovene National Theatre of Nova Gorica.

These cinematic dreams under the stars are curated by Kinoatelje as part of the official programme of European Capital of Culture 2025 Nova Gorica - Gorizia, under the auspices of the Nova Gorica and Vipava Valley Tourist Board and the City Municipality of Nova Gorica.

  • 30. 7. 2025: Fiume o morte!, Igor Bezinović, 2025, 112', with the film crew present
  • 31. 7. 2025: Special Education (Specijalno vaspitanje), Goran Marković, 1977, 110', with the film crew present
  • 1. 8. 2025: Wisdom of Happiness (Dalajlama), Barbara Miller & Philip Delaquis, 2025, 84', pre-premiere, with the film crew present
