Pierluigi Bumbaca's "Obiettivo Confine" Photography Exhibition

"Obiettivo Confine" is a visual journey that celebrates Gorizia as a border city, recounting its recent history through the eyes of one of its most attentive visual witnesses.

The photographs on display support and intertwine the multiple narratives that cross the city in the year in which Gorizia and Nova Gorica share the experience of being the European Capital of Culture GO!2025.

The selection of images comes from a vast archive, made up of hundreds of thousands of photographs taken over the course of over forty years of activity.

The exhibition begins in the mid-1980s and concludes on February 8, 2025, the opening day of GO!2025, tracing the historical, social, and symbolic transitions that have shaped the region: from the Iron Curtain to the construction of a new shared imagination.

The most distant images in time convey a surprising freshness, revealing how news photography, when guided by rigor and intellectual honesty, becomes a historical document and collective memory.

The most recent photographs, on the other hand, are destined to sediment over time, ready to be reread in the future as living traces of a present that will become history.

In Gorizia, writing and photographing news inevitably means telling history.
