Oltre Il Labirinto (Beyond the Labyrinth)

Oltre Il Labirinto (Beyond the Labyrinth)

From October 23rd to November 25th, the Municipality of Gorizia is promoting a series of five free events to combat gender-based violence. The initiative addresses the issue through theater, reinterpretations of classical myths, local art, and an in-depth exploration of rights and legal protections.

Created in collaboration with the SOS Rosa ETS Association and the La Cisile Social Cooperative, the event aims to deconstruct gender stereotypes and promote a culture based on respect, equality and freedom of self-determination.

The journey opens on Friday, October 23rd at 8:30 pm at the Kulturni Dom with the theatrical performance "A proposito di donne" by Mauro Monni, dedicated to the female figures who have marked history.

Subsequent events will range from historical and mythological conferences, guided tours of 20th-century female artists in Gorizia, and technical and legal meetings on support services for women.

All events are free and open to the public in celebration of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

Wednesday, November 4th at 5:30 PM – Palazzo de Grazia, Via Oberdan 15

Conference "Women's Odyssey: Feminine Figures Between Myth, Metamorphosis, and the Imagination"

Conceived and led by Marco Bergamasco, teacher and digital creator of @bergayoutube, the event offers a reinterpretation of the Odyssey through figures such as Circe, Helen, and Penelope. The poem's protagonists serve as a starting point for exploring representations of femininity in classical tradition, questioning archetypes and stereotypes passed down through time, and reflecting on autonomy, desire, equality, and power relations, connecting the myth to contemporary society.

Thursday, November 19, at 5:30 p.m. – Palazzo de Grazia, Via Oberdan 15

Conference "Ancient Myths and Stereotypes About Women"

The second session, curated by Marco Bergamasco, focuses on the historical and cultural roots of prejudices about women. Through analysis of Roman sources and mythological tales, we will explore the representations that have associated women with subordination, silence, and male control. This will be an opportunity to understand how these models have contributed to entrenching inequalities and how certain stereotypes continue to influence relationships and society today.

Saturday, November 21st at 10 a.m. – Town Hall, Piazza Municipio 1

Guided tour: "Women, Artists of the 20th Century. Gemma Verzegnassi, Emma Galli, Cecilia Seghizzi, and Dora Bassi"

The tour, conceived and led by Emanuela Uccello, cultural officer of the Municipality of Gorizia, highlights the contributions of four leading figures in 20th-century art and culture in the Gorizia area. Through their biographies and works, the tour highlights experiences of creativity, determination, and independence, inviting reflection on recognizing female talent and overcoming the obstacles that have historically limited women's professional opportunities.

Wednesday, November 25, at 5:30 p.m. – Palazzo de Grazia, Via Oberdan 15

Conference "Knowing Your Rights, Choosing Freedom. Legal Tools and Pathways to Protection from Gender-Based Violence"

On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, SOS Rosa ETS is offering a meeting with the Center's lawyers, focusing on current legislation and available protections. Women's rights, the various forms of violence—including psychological and economic—and access to legal protection will be explored. The meeting will also provide information on the role of anti-violence centers and the support networks that support women on their journey to safety and independence.
