Michele Spanghero – (Natura Morta) Still Life

"Natura Morta," the evocative bioelectric sound installation by artist Michele Spanghero, arrives in Nova Gorica. It transforms over one hundred lemons into a living battery, giving voice to entropy and the passing of time.

The traditional concept of still life is completely overturned in the work of Michele Spanghero (Gorizia, 1979), who transforms the typically immobile subject into a natural, living, and temporal process. Housed in the spaces of the Xcenter in Nova Gorica, the installation harnesses the residual biochemical energy of over one hundred lemons, connected by a dense network of copper wires, using it as a battery system to power and modulate sound oscillators.

The acoustic signals thus generated resonate inside ellipsoidal stone-shaped acrylic sculptures, which act as acoustic resonators.

As the days pass, the progressive dehydration of the lemons reduces their electrical conductivity, imperceptibly but unstoppably altering the soundscape, until the total stillness and silence caused by the decomposition of the fruit.

The inauguration will be held on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at 7:00 PM, while the closing event is scheduled for Friday, November 13, 2026, at 6:00 PM. Further information and details are available at the center.
