Holocaust Remembrance Day: Tuesday 27th at the Synagogue: guided tours, readings, and two exhibitions

On the occasion of Holocaust Remembrance Day, an international event dedicated to commemorating the victims of the Holocaust, the Municipality is promoting a day of reflection and study hosted at the Synagogue of Via Ascoli, the oldest Jewish temple in the region.

The Synagogue will be open to the public from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., with free admission, and will host a series of initiatives organized in collaboration with local associations and historians.

Program of the day:

10:30 am – 6:30 pm | Special opening of the Synagogue. Free tour of the entire complex: the Temple, the adjoining spaces, the Michelstaedter Room, the exhibition space, and the Courtyard, home to the stele by artist Simon Benetton and the memorial plaque commemorating those from the Gorizia Jewish Community deported to Nazi extermination camps in 1943.

10:30 am – 1:00 pm | Guided Tours Guided tours by Emanuela Uccello dedicated to the paintings of philosopher Carlo Michelstaedter (1887–1910). The tour focuses in particular on the Michelstaedter Room, which houses a selection of the most significant works from the Michelstaedter Collection, established thanks to his sister Paula's donation to the Gorizia Civic Library (drawings, paintings, manuscripts, and publications).

5:00 PM | "Words of Memory" Readings by Elisabetta Loricchio, who will also present and exhibit a selection of books on the theme of Memory. The exhibition will be open throughout the day. Thanks to the collaboration with the Jewish Community and the Jewish Museum of Trieste, as well as the Friends of Israel Association, visitors can visit the Yad VaShem exhibition: "Points of Light: Being a Woman in the Shoah," a journey through life stories told firsthand, focusing on themes such as motherhood, friendship, faith, and resistance in everyday life.
