Evakuacija Duha (theatre performance)

A theatre performance entitled Evakuacija duha (Spirit Evacuation) is based on letters, songs and constructivist pieces by Srečko Kosovel, Slovenian poet from Karst region.

Consisting exclusively of the poet’s opus, the text of the show allows us to think about our time while listening about the poet’s time. We manifest contradictory fragments of an individual, who is not like Leonardo da Vinci; who is not “a statue of a person, unmoved through the ages,” for da Vinci is a myth. But a person is more than that, a person is dynamic. Even though Kosovel tactfully concealed details of his personal life (most likely in order to keep his Poetry at the forefront of historiography), we aim to recognise the person he was, a person who could have been our friend, colleague, brother; someone who faced the same existential angst that we are facing right now … and not someone who is merely a transhistorical figure, the collective story of our nation. Through ten theatrical scenes, we try to understand Srečko Kosovel in order to understand his Myth, and thus honour the person he was.

The event is part of the official ECoC programme and the artistic programme of the Avantgarde Conference, which focuses on the way to (co)create a radical vision of our world.
