European Day of Jewish Culture

European Day of Jewish Culture

On the occasion of the European Day of Jewish Culture, Sunday 14 September, the Synagogue at Via Ascoli 19, the oldest in Friuli Venezia Giulia, will host a double event to commemorate the figure of the philosopher, writer and poet Carlo Michelstaedter and to explore the profound bond between his family and books.

The exhibition "Family Books. Some Shelves from the Michelstaedter Library" will open at 6:00 PM. Curated by Antonella Gallarotti, writer, librarian, and former director of the Michelstaedter Collection, and Simone Volpato, bibliographer and owner of the antiquarian bookshop Drogheria 28, the exhibition will be open to the public during the synagogue's opening hours—Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Admission is free.

Following this, the Director of the Isontina State Library, Luca Caburlotto, who has granted permission for some of the works to be exhibited, will engage in a conversation with the two curators, addressing various aspects of the history of the Michelstaedter family and the readings of the young Carlo.
