Dodecalogy: 1981

Dodecalogy: 1981

The tenth episode of Tomi Janežič’s epic stage project Dodecalogy will take place.

In October, as part of the Dodecalogy project, the Hungarian Theatre of Novi Sad will perform in Nova Gorica with a one-time block of repeated performances.

In the year of Princess Diana and Prince Charles’s wedding, the assassination attempts on Pope John Paul II and U.S. President Ronald Reagan, when IBM launched the first personal computer and MTV began broadcasting, television aired the Dynasty series and The Smurfs cartoon, while Olivia Newton-John’s song Physical ushered in the aerobics era.

The year 1981 also marked the opening of SPENS in Novi Sad, the Freedom Bridge, the Novi Sad Hotel, and the new building of the Serbian National Theatre. It was the time of gasoline coupons and the so-called long-term economic stabilization programme in what was then one of the most indebted countries in the world. Songs like Moja prva ljubav by Haustor and the Paket aranžman cult album were being played, protests were taking place in Kosovo, Marian apparitions began in Medjugorje, and the Hungarian Theatre of Novi Sad was preparing the performance Bayer Aszpirin, which foreshadowed the beginning of the state's dissolution.
