Dodecalogy: 1980

Dodecalogy: 1980

The ninth episode of Tomi Janežič’s epic stage project Dodecalogy will take place.

In the year Tito dies, the Iran–Iraq War begins. Ronald Reagan wins the U.S. presidential election by a wide margin over Jimmy Carter. In Poland, the Solidarność Trade Union is founded—the first independent organization of its kind in the Eastern Bloc. In Bologna, the worst post-war terrorist attack in Italy takes place. Lucio Dalla dedicates the song Balla balla ballerino to the event. Aldo Rossi designs the Teatro del Mondo, a floating, mobile theatre inspired by the stages built in 18th-century Venice for carnivals.

On the radio, Crno bijeli svijet by Prljavo kazalište and Malena by Idoli are played. Bojan Križaj wins for the first time, and the Yugoslav basketball team takes gold at the Summer Olympics in Moscow. Pac-Man, the best-selling video game of all time, is released. In Nova Gorica, the cultural centre opens with the Vrtnica programme on Culture Day. At the Nova Gorica stadium, photo-finish timing equipment is used for the first time. The stadium hosts, for the first time, a two-day live TV broadcast of a national-level triple match between Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia, and Switzerland. The Enota Kekec kindergarten is built on Cankar Street through community self-funding. In Gorizia, Francesco De Gregori holds a concert in the Palasport hall.

The performance 1980 follows the transgenerational story of the family and neighbours introduced in the play 1974.
