Damjan Kozole: OHO – Pre-Preview of the Feature-Length Documentary

Pre-premiere of the feature-length documentary about the OHO Art Collective.

On Sunday, 29 June, at 20:00, Vipavski Križ will host the world premiere of the feature-length documentary OHO by director Damjan Kozole.

What do you get when you combine an eye and an ear? How do you place Triglav in the centre of Ljubljana? How do you enter New York’s Museum of Modern Art—and stay there? What does Šempas look like today? The film will be presented by director Damjan Kozole, and the screening will be attended by the members of the OHO group: Marko Pogačnik, Iztok Geister, Naško Križnar, Milenko Matanovič, David Nez, Matjaž Hanžek, Marika Pogačnik, and Tomaž Brejc. Before the screening, there will be a talk with them, and the gathering will also be addressed by the Minister of Culture, Asta Vrečko. The screening is scheduled for 21:00.

Damjan Kozole: OHO

Between 1965 and 1971, Slovenia was home to the OHO avant-garde art movement, which continues to inspire artists to this day. OHO is regarded as one of the most interesting, complex, and significant examples of post-war avant-garde art in Central and Eastern Europe. The OHO group was formed and after just a few years, they participated in a major conceptual art exhibition at New York’s MoMA. After this success, the group disbanded in 1971 and founded a commune in Šempas in the Vipava Valley. OHO was not just an art collective but a remarkable multidisciplinary cultural phenomenon that combined visual art, film, literature, poetry, and theory. As soon as in the 1960s, they posed crucial questions about anthropocentrism, ecology, and the economics of art. The documentary by Damjan Kozole, rich with previously unseen material, presents this inspiring fusion of art and life in a comprehensive way for the first time and explores what their ideas can offer us today.
