14a Tappa Del Giro D'Italia

Gorizia and Nova Gorica are colouring themselves pink ahead of the 14th stage of the Giro d'Italia.

The Giro d'Italia caravan for stage 14 will start from Treviso on 24 May and will end in Transalpina/Europe Square between 16:30 and 17:00.

The 196 km Treviso-Nova Gorica Gorizia stage, which starts at 13:00, features a completely flat route with a few climbs in the finale. At km 140 the riders enter Slovenia for the first time with some short climbs in the Collio (Brda) to reach Gorizia and the entrance to the final circuit of about 14 km to be covered once after the passage on the finish line.

The riders will ride across the Friulian plain, tackling flying sprints Morsano al Tagliamento and, Talmassons and Manzano, until reaching the Collio. The tour will arrive in the Isonzo area through the municipality of Cormons, and then continue towards Subida and enter Slovenia via the Plessiva pass. Passing through the Slovenian Collio, the race will return to Italy in San Floriano del Collio. From there, the Giro will ‘descend’ to Gorizia, where it will begin a cross-border city route of about 13.8 km between Gorizia and Nova Gorica.

In the final part, on Slovenian territory, there will be two small mountain prizes, at San Martino and at the Dente di Saver, which could hold some surprises in store. The conclusion of the stage will be framed by the evolutions of the Pattuglia Acrobatica Nazionale: the Frecce Tricolori (Italian acrobatic arrows) will take to the skies above the Transalpina/Europe Square at the moment of the prize-giving ceremony, creating an enthralling spectacle.

The winner of the 14th stage will receive a special prize, a bourbon rose, the colour of the Giro, from the mayor of Nova Gorica, Samo Turel.

After the day of the Giro, the highlight in the evening will be the concert of the renowned Italian band The Kolors in Kidričeva Street, in front of the Nova Gorica Town Hall, at 8pm.

So that visitors to Nova Gorica can enjoy themselves from the morning and arrive in time to watch the race, and to ensure that they are properly positioned along the route, the Municipality of Nova Gorica is preparing a varied programme from the morning. In fact, it has cooperated with the Javni zavod GO! 2025, the Youth Centre of Nova Gorica, the Public Institute for Tourism of Nova Gorica and the Vipava Valley, the Public Institute for Sport of Nova Gorica, the Nova Gorica Sports Federation, the EGTC GO and, of course, the Municipality of Brda and the Institute for Tourism, Culture, Youth and Sport of Brda, which is organising various events in the Collio area as well.

On the day of the race the centre of Nova Gorica will be closed between 2pm and 6pm. There will be parking measures in place in Gorizia too, which will be made public shortly.

The professionals' race will be anticipated by the Giro-E, a non-competitive cycling event with pedal-assisted bicycles, which will partially cover the race route about one and a half hours earlier.

Updated information on the 14th stage of the Giro d'Italia is available on the website of the Municipality of Nova Gorica www.nova-gorica.si, in the Giro d'Italia section, available in three languages: Slovenian, Italian and English.
