The Pine Grove park represents an example of a Nature-Based Solution in the urban centre of Nova Gorica.
The park takes its name from the grove of black pines that gives the area an oasis-like feel. The park's terrain is characterized by hilly terrain with a natural amphitheater and a body of water; the latter is the remains of a former clay quarry, used for brickmaking at the nearby brickyard on Erjavčeva Street before the founding of Nova Gorica.
Today, the pond serves several functions: it collects rainwater and serves as a defense against flooding; it provides a vital habitat for many plant and animal species (such as willows, poplars, reeds, insects, fish, amphibians, birds, etc.); it connects the residential neighborhood to sports and cultural facilities; and it offers a space for rest and relaxation.
