The noble city, used as a fortress by the Republic of Venice against Turkish invasions, has a rich architectural and historical heritage thanks to four centuries of Habsburg influence.

A salon with a Mitteleuropean flair Immersed in greenery and ready to tell a story that’s more than nine centuries old, this is what the visitor sees in Gradisca d’Isonzo, a noble city that, especially starting in the 15th century, took on a key role played a key role in Republic of Venice’s defensive system against Turkish invasions.

Venice fortified it so much that in 1479 the old town of Gradisca was surrounded by powerful walls. Gradisca’s remarkable architectural heritage grew especially under the Princes of Eggenberg, between the 17th and 18th century, at a time when the transformation from city to Princely County of Gradisca had already started. The four Hapsburg centuries left a strong historical impression, which nowadays combines with distinct business and cultural brilliance.

There are many restaurants and food facilities, best represented by the regional wine exhibition and bar “La Serenissima”, where you can taste Friuli Venezia Giulia’s best wines from the typical CDO Isonzo area.
