"MEPHISTO – A Novel of a Career"

It happens with books as with people: encounters are unplanned. This is what happened with Mephisto, a career-spanning novel by Klaus Mann. He presented himself as unexpectedly as he did powerfully.

By Klaus Mann

Adapted by Andrea Baracco and Maria Teresa Berardelli
Directed by Andrea Baracco
With Woody Neri, Giuliana Vigogna, Anahi Traversi and Federico Fiocchetti
Author's voice and Hamlet's voice by Lino Musella
A production by Pierfrancesco Pisani and Isabella Borettini for Infinito and Argot Produzioni
In co-production with Compagnia Mauri Sturno, MAT – Transversal Artistic Movements
And with the contribution of the Tuscany Region

Perhaps it's because of the historical period in which it is set, Germany preparing for the Second World War, or perhaps because it forces us to confront the weaknesses, ambitions, and compromises we sometimes find ourselves caught up in despite everything, even despite ourselves. In Mephisto, two stories coexist: one is the story within the novel, the horizontal one, the fabula; the other is the story of the novel, amidst endless political censorship and decades-long trials. And both have something exceptional.
