"Franco Basaglia. Where the Eyes Couldn’t Reach": Photographs by Gianni Berengo Gardin, Raymond Depardon and Ferdinando Scianna

On the occasion of GO! 2025, this project commemorates Franco Basaglia and his relationship with the city of Gorizia – then the epicenter of a cultural revolution of international significance – through the work of three extraordinary photographers who documented that historic moment.
For the first time, Gianni Berengo Gardin (1930–2025), Raymond Depardon (1942) and Ferdinando Scianna (1943) are brought together in a project that, through their photographs and personal accounts, highlights Basaglia’s visionary work and the transformation he initiated, culminating in the 1978 law that abolished psychiatric hospitals.
