Borderless Christmas Lights: the grand finale of the European Capital of Culture 2025
Celebrate the finale of the European Capital of Culture 2025, connecting Gorizia and Nova Gorica with simultaneous Christmas lights, cultural events, and the Borderless Party, from 29 November to 5 December.
The grand finale of the European Capital of Culture 2025 will connect Gorizia and Nova Gorica through a week of cultural events, performances, and celebrations.
- Saturday 29 November – 18:30 – Piazza Transalpina: Simultaneous Christmas lights switch-on in both cities, symbolically linking them and highlighting the ECOC message that culture transcends borders. From 16:30, SENG and HSE will host children’s workshops and DJ entertainment.
- Tuesday 2 December – EPIC Distrikt, Nova Gorica: GO! 2025 presentation covering initial results of the ECOC project, economic and cultural impact analyses, and next steps for the cross-border region, including citizen engagement and civic heritage initiatives.
- Wednesday 3 December – EPIC Distrikt, Nova Gorica: Joyful Day of Culture, celebrating Slovenia’s cultural heritage and France Prešeren’s birthday, with film screenings, talks, and exhibitions.
- Thursday 4 December – EPIC Distrikt, Nova Gorica: “ECOC after the ECOC”, discussing long-term cultural, social, and infrastructural impacts and future cross-border collaboration.
- Friday 5 December – Piazza Transalpina & EPIC Distrikt: Closing ceremony and Borderless Party, including the official handover of the European Capital of Culture title to Trenčín (Slovakia) and Oulu (Finland) for 2026. Events include a light procession (17:00), the official ceremony (18:30), and Boiling Border, a poetic-electronic evening with German DJ Fritz Kalkbrenner (20:00).
