ShorTs International Film Festival

The historic Maremetraggio section will present 50 recent, high-quality short films from around the world during the evenings scheduled at Trieste's Public Garden. Starting in 2023, the Festival will also host the following sections: ShorTS Express, featuring 12 short films with a maximum running time of 5 minutes (excluding closing credits) competing for an audience award; Italia in ShorTS, featuring 12 Made in Italy shorts competing for, among others, the award assigned by AMC – Associazione Montaggio Cinematografica; and Eco-ShorTS, featuring 10 international short films on environmental themes, with an audience award. These four key sections will be curated by Massimiliano Nardulli. A panel discussion on the international production, distribution, and aesthetics of short films will also be organized, with directors and producers coming to Trieste to participate.

Everything is ready for the 27th edition of the ShorTS International Film Festival, the film festival dedicated to short films, directed by Maurizio di Rienzo, scheduled in Trieste from June 27 to July 4, 2026.

The Festival will feature seven competitive sections: the Maremetraggio section, offering a broad overview of the vitality of this cinematic language with international works competing for the Best Short Film Award (€4,000) and the Audience Award for Best Short Film; the ShorTS Express section, presenting very short films from various countries competing for the Audience Award for Best Short Film (€1,000); the Italia in ShorTS section, featuring Made in Italy shorts competing for the Audience Award for Best Short Film (€2,000) and the AMC Award for Best Editing; the Eco-ShorTS section featuring international works on environmental themes, competing for the Audience Award for Best Environmental Short Film (€1,000); the Shorter Kids'n'Teens section, a sort of "festival within the festival" - with its short films it aims to introduce the languages and techniques of short film to viewers aged between 6 and 15 - who will be judged by the Kids jury (Shorter Kids Award for best short film) and the Teens jury (Shorter Teens Award for best short film); the ShorTS Immersive section dedicated to VR short films competing for the Audience Award for best Virtual Reality short film (€1,000.00) and the Award for best 6DoF experience (€1,000.00); and the new ShorTS Horror Picture Show section, which aims to be a tribute to horror cinema understood as a celebration of fantasy and the creative world of ideas, nightmares, obsessions, but always and in any case in opposition and resistance to that world of the most sinister and disturbing everyday horrors, competing for the Audience Award for best short film.

Competition registrations are open until Sunday, February 15, 2026, on the Festhome and FilmfreeWay platforms: festhome.com/f/2418 and filmfreeway.com/ShorTSInternationalFilmFestival
