OPENING OF THE SOČA VALLEY HIKING AND BIKING FESTIVAL in cooperation with the Blitz Bovec Marathon

The Soča Valley Hiking and Cycling Festival 2026 will open in Bovec in cooperation with the Bovec Marathon. Visitors can look forward to a varied full-day programme featuring cycling activities, presentations by local providers, accompanying events and an evening lecture by Petra Majdič. 4. 9.—11. 10. 2026   Programme 9.00    Elan e-bike test ride as part of a guided cycling tour of the Bovec basin (guided cycling tour starts at 9:30 AM) 9.00–16.00 Culinary offerings and a market of local delicacies from the Soča Valley Discover the authentic flavours of the Soča Valley and local products and produce from providers united under the collective brand Soča Valley Finest. 10.00 Cycling activity course In cooperation with the Sloga 1902 Idrija Cycling Association and the Soča Kobarid Cycling Club, a children's cycling challenge or mini race for children with bicycles and balance bikes will take place in the centre of Bovec. Children need their own bicycle or balance bike to participate. The Sloga 1902 Idrija Cycling Association will also present its activities and opportunities for young cyclists to join the club. 10.00–12.00 Live podcast: »Crazy About Cycling: Slovenia, a Cycling Gem Hidden in the Julian Alps« Peloton Slovenija is a relatively new cycling podcast. On this occasion, it will be recorded in front of a live audience for the first time and will also be distributed digitally afterwards. The episode, taking place on 4 September, will be the podcast’s first live episode and will be held as part of the new Mad Alps cycling event. The discussion will focus on the future of cycling in Slovenia, the Julian Alps as a cycling destination and the path towards potentially hosting the Tour de France in Slovenia. Bovec and the Soča Valley provide a natural setting for such a discussion: the emerald river, mountain roads and an increasingly recognisable cycling culture create an environment where cycling stories write themselves. 19.30–21.00 Lecture by Petra Majdič: Our Journey Location: Bovec Square Organised by: Soča Valley Tourism in cooperation with Blitz Bovec Marathon In case of bad weather, the podcast “Crazy About Cycling: Slovenia, a Cycling Gem Hidden in the Julian Alps” and Petra Majdič’s lecture “Our Path” will be moved to the Bovec Cultural Centre, while all other activities will be cancelled.
