Our Railway - 120 Years of the Bohinj Line
It has been 120 years since the opening of the Bohinj Line, the railway connection of the Soča region with the world. It promised economic and general prosperity for the Soča regions, which, however, did not happen in later years due to a combination of historical events and circumstances. On this anniversary, we will shed light on the line from a different perspective. We will look back at history, but also look at how the area along the line lives today. The exhibition by architect Elvis Jerkič, which we will open under the railway viaduct in Bača pri Modreju on this occasion, attempts to show through photographs how the area along the line has changed from the time of construction to the present day and how the locals have adapted it to their needs. But even before that, we will learn about the importance of the Bohinj Line in different periods of our history on a walk along the line. It has introduced new economic and social habits and integrated remote valleys into the modern world. As the course of history has reversed, the role of the once promising transport connection between distant markets has also changed. Limited by state borders, the line has become more susceptible to intermediate places. Over time, the space of the railway has been appropriated by nature and locals. The Municipality of Tolmin, the Tolmin Museum, the Most na Soči Local Community and the Most na Soči Tourist Association are participating in the organization of the event.
